Dog Door Installation
Successful Dog Door Installation Hints
Having a dog that is both indoors and outdoors means someone has to open the door for the dog to get in and out. A dog door gives freedom to the dog and the owner to move around freely. Deciding where to install the door is quite important because as one goes along, it may be necessary to do more than one dog door installation.
Hardware stores and selected online stores have a wide variety of these outlets available. The size of the dog will play the most important factor in deciding on the door. It comes with installation kits which include the door, frames, hinges a cutting template and clear instructions.
Once all the necessary tools are at hand, you will place the template on the deciding door, trace the outline and mark the areas where hinges will be attached. The simplest way is to drill a hole as a starting point and then making use of a jigsaw to cut out the frame. Use a drill to make holes for the hinges.
Once the frame is secured using the nuts and bolts, make sure the flap moves freely and that it closes properly when it is not being used. Also check carefully for any sharp edges that may harm the dog when it moves through the door.
Dog doors can also be installed in walls. This is a far more complicated and expensive avenue to follow. When a piece of wall is broken out to fit the door, one has to seal off the walling to ensure no moisture will penetrate the interior of the wall, which may lead to paint damage. In most cases, there will have to be two doors installed: one on each side of the wall.
Lastly, ensure that the top of the flap is at least the size of the tallest shoulder of the dog. If this is the case then one has successfully completed the dog door installation.
